Building a safer Trans-Labrador Highway

The Provincial and Federal governments have announced  major upgrades for Route 510 on the Trans-Labrador Highway. These upgrades represent a total investment of $15.3 million. The project will increase safety on the route in addition to extending the useful life of the roadway by ten years. Additionally, continued paving operations on the Labrador highway will give residents of the area easier and safer access to the area and beyond. The improvements to the highway are also crucial to increasing economic growth and prosperity for the region and will bring many benefits to the region for years to come.

Provincial and Federal Partners

Premier Ball was on-hand at the announcement in Forteau. Joining him was Labrador MP Yvonne Jones who attended on behalf of the Honourable Amerjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. The Government of NL is contributing $8.1 million and their federal counterparts will contribute $7.1 million.

Premier Ball acknowledged the value of Route 510 as part of the transportation network in Labrador. He stated “My government is committed to the completion of the Trans Labrador Highway so that residents and visitors can travel across Labrador and explore all the opportunities that exist in the Big Land.”

Minister Dempster

MHA for Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair and Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, Lisa Dempster commented that this road work has been a key priority for her and the Government of NL. As a lifelong member of the district, Minister Dempster knows the value this type of work can provide.  She commented “The investment announcement today builds on our efforts to upgrade and pave the Trans-Labrador Highway and we are excited about what this will mean for the people of the Labrador Straits and the entire province as this project moves forward.”
