Celebrating the 6th Anniversary of Our Premier and Leader, Dwight Ball

The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to congratulate our Leader, Premier Dwight Ball, on his 6th anniversary as Leader of the Liberal Party. Mr. Ball was elected to the House of Assembly in 2007 and again in 2011 to represent his home district of Humber Valley. In January 2012, he became interim party leader and leader of the official opposition. He was officially elected party leader in 2013.

On November 30, 2015, Dwight Ball was elected Member of the House of Assembly for his redrawn home district of Humber-Gros Morne, leading his party to victory in the general election and forming a majority government. On December 14, 2015, Dwight Ball was sworn in as the 13th Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Since becoming Premier, Dwight Ball has tackled many challenges which include securing the financial footing of the province. From his first day in office, he began stabilizing the critical economic situation that was left by the former Conservative government. This past fall, Premier Ball officially launched an inquiry into the Muskrat Falls project, a project he long advocated against during his time as leader of the official opposition. Through The Way Forward, a Vision of Sustainability and Growth in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Premier is now focusing on creating a climate that is conducive to economic diversification and job growth in the province.

Other important achievements realized by the Ball Government include:

  • Implementing Full Day Kindergarten for the first time in the history of the province
  • Launching the Action Plan to Transform Mental Health and Addictions
  • Increasing the Seniors’ Benefit and the Newfoundland and Labrador Income Supplement
  • Creating the office of the Seniors’ Advocate
  • Investing in the long overdue Corner Brook Hospital and long-term care facilities in Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor and Gander.
  • Amending the Highway Traffic Act to help ensure young people develop safe and sober driving habits.

These are just some of the many achievements the Premier has accomplished since forming Government in 2015. The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador fully supports him and would like to congratulate him on his six years of continued leadership.

“Over the past six years, Premier Dwight Ball has been a steady hand at the wheel of the Liberal Party. He has faced many challenges and remains a dedicated leader to both the party and the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. In contrast to this, the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador has watched the Conservative leadership pass from hand to hand without any true accountability or plan for the future. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness our Premier advocate for this province on a national level and the respect and passion he displays is something this province should be very proud of. He has the full support of the Executive Board as we prepare for the future.”
