Cyril Hayden, Conception Bay East – Bell Island

Cyril Hayden and his wife, Marion, have lived in the Conception Bay East – Bell Island District for 14 years, enjoying the rural lifestyle.

Cyril retired as general manager of the Newfoundland and Labrador division of Canadian Liquid Air. He is a red seal welder and industrial mechanic millwright who studied vocational education at Memorial University.

Cyril was instrumental in starting the journeypersons’ welding program in this province and in having it approved and recognized across Canada. He is still active as an examiner with the red seal welding program.

For the past 20 years, Cyril has chaired the School Lunch Association’s board of directors. Under his leadership, the program has grown from 6 schools to 34.

In the past Cyril has volunteered with the Boy Scouts, coached minor soccer, and served as president of the Avalon Minor Hockey Association and the Avalon Junior Hockey League. He also chaired the fundraising committee of Centre Base Bingo, benefitting seven charities.
