Mark Browne

Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier

Born in Burin to parents from Placentia Bay fishing families, Mark Browne is a passionate advocate for rural Newfoundland and Labrador. He holds an honours degree in political science and French from Memorial University and has been active in politics since 2009.

In November 2015, Mark was elected to the House of Assembly to serve the District of Placentia West – Bellevue, making history as the youngest MHA in provincial history. He was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to Premier Dwight Ball. Prior to entering politics, Mark worked as an aide to Liberal MP Judy Foote, and later worked as a political staffer in the Office of the Official Opposition in St. John’s. He also served as an executive of the federal riding association and as president of the Liberal Association for Burin – Placentia West.

Mark served as the chair of the party’s Policy Committee on Economics and Resource Development, consulting extensively with small business owners with the aim of tackling the economic issues facing Newfoundland and Labrador. Mark has also served as president of College of the North Atlantic’s Burin Campus, and was a board member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Parliament.
