Premier Ball Delivers Keynote Address at Noia Conference
Premier Dwight Ball delivered the keynote address today to a full house at Noia 2017. The annual oil and gas industry conference is the largest of its kind in Atlantic Canada. The theme of this year’s Noia Conference is Offshore Newfoundland and Labrador: Relevant, Untapped & Resilient. Much of the Premier’s speech reflected optimism for the future of the oil industry in this province.
Having come through the worst of a slump in global oil prices and a resulting downturn in industrial activity, the prospects for the offshore in this province are encouraging.
In his remarks, the Premier cited global demand for oil and gas as an industry driver. The world relies on these resources to meet its growing energy needs.
“With the abundant resources under the waters around our province we are positioned to meet these needs now and well into the future,” Premier Ball said. “We are dedicated to creating an environment of success, for this province, and for industry partners alike.”
Premier Ball highlighted to Noia Conference delegates the significant momentum in Newfoundland and Labrador’s oil and gas sector — momentum that comes as a result of recent discoveries and upcoming projects. And in order to harness this momentum, considerable investments have been made in technology and innovation in the fields of exploration and research and development.
“Our offshore industry, like the people of Newfoundland and Labrador is resilient,” said Premier Ball during his remarks . “We have ridden the wave of low commodity prices over the last three years and we are making a comeback. We are stronger than ever. In Newfoundland and Labrador, we are proud that we have positioned ourselves as a hub of offshore activity, creating a climate where the business of the oil and gas industry can thrive.”
“There is so much more to come.”
