Scott grew up on the West Coast of Newfoundland in the community of Jeffreys. He has deep family roots on the West Coast and both his parents were from Codroy.
After finishing high school, Scott went to university at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in Corner Brook and later to Memorial University in St. John’s where he completed a degree in Political Science and Economics. While working he went to University part-time and completed a Masters in Educational Leadership and in 1999 Scott returned to university full time and completed a PhD at the University of Ottawa.
Beginning as a researcher with Government Members’ Office in 1989 during the Clyde Wells administration, Scott advanced to various senior level positions within government including Director of Communications and Director of Research. While the Liberal Party was in Opposition, Scott worked as a researcher during the leadership of Roger Grimes, Gerry Reid, Yvonne Jones and Dwight Ball. From 2008 to 2010, Scott worked as Senior Policy Advisor at the Federal level with Liberal MP Siobhan Coady.
Scott Reid was first elected in a bye-election in August 2014 and was re-elected in the subsequent general election in November 2015. Before his election to the House of Assembly, Scott taught courses at the Department of Political Science and the Faculty of Business at Memorial University.
Scott is married to Shaunna Reid and they have a 16-year-old daughter, Katherine.
