Team Gushue Clinches Stunning Brier Win

A hometown crowd was treated to a stunning victory by Brad Gushue and his team in the 2017 Brier last night at Mile One. Gushue’s final rock clinched a 7-6 win over Team Canada, earning Newfoundland and Labrador its first Brier title since 1976.

Team Newfoundland and Labrador is skipped by Brad Gushue, with Mark Nichols playing third, Brett Gallant playing second, and Geoff Walker playing lead.

Brad Gushue, whose 2006 curling team won Olympic gold at Turin, is one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s all-time greatest athletes, and the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador wishes him and his team sincere congratulations. To have captured Olympic gold and the Brier, two of the biggest prizes in the sport of curling, truly cements Gushue’s status as one of Canada’s greatest-ever curlers.

To have been able to share in this victory on home ice was a moment in the history of Newfoundland and Labrador sports that will never be forgotten.
