Advancing MTAP Reform

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Furey government is listening to concerns from those who rely on the Medical Transportation Assistance Program (MTAP), particularly families in Labrador West. Our Liberal candidate in the District of Labrador West, Wayne Button, and Premier Andrew Furey announced a significant commitment that will bring meaningful reform to the program and benefit all Labradorians.

“I’m excited to share that PAL Airlines is joining us at the table to make changes to the MTAP that will make a big difference in the lives of Labradorians,” said Wayne Button.

“As someone who has seen the shortcomings of the program firsthand, and after facilitating a meeting between Premier Furey and families who rely on the program when the Premier visited our district earlier in the campaign, I’m happy to say PAL Airlines is working with us on what reforms could be brought forward,” Button said.

Button and PAL Airlines collaborated over the last months to discuss ways to make the MTAP more efficient and easier for Labradorians.

Some of these changes, for example, could include PAL Airlines providing approved MTAP fares for bookings – up to and including day of travel, eliminating the extra cost often associated with last minute bookings – and only charging the passenger the difference in fare between the MTAP reimbursement and fare so the passenger wouldn’t have to pay upfront and wait for reimbursement.

“I look forward to the opportunity to represent Labradorians in the House of Assembly, and lead these changes forward in short order,” said Button.
