As the one-year anniversary of the devastating wildfires in Conception Bay North approaches, the Official Opposition is encouraging the Conservative government to continue working towards a long-term housing plan and renewed community infrastructure to ensure the region’s full recovery.
Opposition Leader John Hogan remembers the tremendous impact the fires had on families, communities, and first responders, while reaffirming his support for those still rebuilding.
The wildfires forced residents from their homes, destroyed properties, and left a lasting mark on communities throughout the region. Over the past year, the resilience and strength shown by residents has been nothing short of remarkable.
During one of the province’s most challenging emergencies, firefighters, emergency responders, volunteers, municipal leaders, and neighbours demonstrated extraordinary dedication and selflessness. Their tireless efforts cannot be overstated.
“My thoughts remain with every family whose lives were forever changed by last summer’s devastating wildfire season,” says Opposition Leader, John Hogan. “While serving as Premier, August 3rd and the weeks that followed are days that I will never forget. I witnessed first hand the courage and resilience that defined such a difficult time. For many, the recovery continues, and we stand with the people of Conception Bay North as they rebuild their homes, their communities, and their lives.”
As the investigation into the cause of the fires remains ongoing, the Official Opposition strongly encourages anyone who may have information to come forward to police.
The Official Opposition remains committed to supporting the residents of Conception Bay North and will continue advocating to the Conservative government for the resources and assistance needed to continue rebuilding the region.
