FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador Modernizing for the Future

The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador (LPNL) held a very successful Annual General Meeting and Convention in Gander over the weekend, marking the first in-person meeting since 2018.

Dedicated Liberals from across the province gathered for keynote addresses, with lively panel discussions, policy and constitutional amendments, and a focus on supporting and encouraging people to get involved in politics, particularly women, gender-diverse individuals, and members of other under-represented populations.

Some of the highlights from those sessions are:

  • Changing to a system of “Registered Liberals” from a Member/Supporter system;
  • Creating a 2SLGBTQQIA+ Commission and position on the Executive Board;
  • Policy discussions on improving Search and Rescue services in Labrador, developing wind energy, climate change, health care, the fishery, and so much more.

At the AGM, the LPNL officially thanked President Megan Reynolds for her commitment in guiding the Party over the challenging years of the pandemic, and welcomed incoming President Ashley Power-Stack into a new role – one which the Party is certain she will excel at.

The LPNL also presented the Young Liberal of the Year Award to Nicholas Ellis, and three J. Aidan Hennebury Awards were presented to longtime members Gerry Glavine, Gail Parsons, and Stephen May, KC.

Quotes

“It was so exciting to reconnect with fellow Liberals this weekend as we continue to grow and work towards a brighter future for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. It takes a lot of work to put together this important event, and I would like to thank convention co-chairs Minister Krista Lynn Howell, Steve Tessier, and all those who organized and attended. Our Party is strong because of each dedicated member of the team, and with their commitment, our government continues making significant accomplishments for our province. ”

Premier Dr. Andrew Furey

Leader, LPNL

“Recharged. Re-energized. Reunited. Was the theme of this year’s AGM & Convention and we certainly felt that throughout this weekend. I want to thank Liberals from all across this province for joining us in Gander for some healthy discussions on many important topics, and I look forward to connecting with you all as your new President.”

Ashley Power Stack

President, LPNL
