Liberals Join FFAW’s Advocacy for Greater Marketing of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Seafood Product

The Liberal Caucus is supporting the Fish, Food and Allied Workers (FFAW) in its call for a stronger focus on marketing Newfoundland and Labrador’s world-class seafood products.

Our province’s fishery and aquaculture industries employ more than 17,000 workers and are the cornerstone of rural Newfoundland and Labrador communities. With exports already reaching more than 30 countries around the world, promoting our province’s premium seafood products in existing and emerging markets will not only sustain the industry, but create opportunities for continued growth.

In 2025, the combined market value of the commercial fishery and the aquaculture industry reached a record $2.11 billion. “By strengthening promotion of the high-quality seafood that Newfoundland and Labrador has to offer the world, we can build on that success and reach even more markets,” says Fisheries and Aquaculture critic and former Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture minister, MHA Elvis Loveless. “The long-term success of our fishery depends on ensuring the world knows about the premium product our harvesters catch and processors and plant workers process to get to the global markets.”

The Official Opposition joins the FFAW in its advocacy for more marketing, and calls on the Conservative Government to increase investment in seafood marketing, and develop creative marketing strategies that expands our global reach and increases demand for our product.
