Liberals Welcome PUB Approval for Critical Bay d’Espoir Hydroelectric Investments

The Official Opposition is welcoming the Public Utilities Board’s approval of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s $77.5 million plan to rehabilitate Penstock 3 at the Bay d’Espoir Hydroelectric Generating Station, as well as the approval of a $5.6 million advance to support work on the Unit 8 replacement project.

The MHA for Fortune Bay – Cape La Hune, Elvis Loveless, along with the entire Liberal Caucus, has been advocating for these investments to ensure the long-term reliability of one of the province’s most important hydroelectric facilities.

“This is welcome news for the people of our region and for Newfoundland and Labrador as a whole,” said Loveless. “These investments will help ensure a more reliable electricity supply, create good-paying jobs, and support future economic development in the Bay d’Espoir region. We’ve consistently raised the importance of making these upgrades, and we’re pleased to see this work moving forward.”

The Liberal Caucus will continue to advocate for strategic infrastructure investments that strengthen rural Newfoundland and Labrador, support local employment, and provide the reliable energy needed to grow our economy.
