The Conservative Government has finally confirmed it will continue the previous Liberal Government’s Aging Well at Home Grants program, with applications opening on January 5, 2026. MHAs have received numerous inquiries from Newfoundlanders and Labradorians about the status of this popular program, and Liberal MHAs have consistently advocated for it to be continued and expanded.
Given the success of this program, the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador committed in its 2025 election platform to double the grant from $400 to $800. Despite rising costs of living and the clear benefits this grant provides to seniors, the Conservative government has decided not to increase it.
“Seniors and their families have benefited from this Liberal policy, and we are pleased it will be continued. However, given the cost-of-living challenges faced by seniors, particularly those on fixed incomes, the Conservatives should have doubled the amount of the grant as we had planned,” said MHA Lucy Stoyles.
“The Aging Well at Home Grant provides financial assistance to help seniors remain in their homes, which is a key component of the Health Accord,” said MHA Lisa Dempster.
Newfoundland and Labrador’s seniors helped build and shape our province, and they deserve to age well at home with the best economic, medical, and social supports that can be provided.
