As the MHA for Placentia–St. Mary’s, the issue of the sauce plant has long been a priority for me. After years of collaboration and consultation with the Town of St. Mary’s and the federal government, I was pleased to inform Mayor Steve Ryan that funding had been allocated by the Liberal government in Budget 2025 to support cleanup of the site.
Unfortunately, we have heard nothing from the new Conservative government regarding the status of this project. We urge the government to work with the Town Council and clearly communicate its plans to the public.
Following the recent windstorm, the situation has become even more urgent. The Conservative government has a responsibility to act and look after all parts of the province, as they promised.
I have been in contact with the Mayor, and in the meantime, I encourage residents to remain alert and be prepared in the event an evacuation order is issued by emergency officials.
I will continue to advocate for St. Mary’s, as I always have, and stand ready to support the community should an evacuation become necessary.
