On Saturday, January 16th, 2021, Premier Furey visited the St. John’s Farmers’ Market to promote his bold new path for Newfoundland and Labrador. Team Furey is committed to making our province one of the healthiest in Canada by 2031.
“Newfoundland and Labrador is such a special place to live, work, visit and raise a family and grow a business,” Furey said. “Long-term savings to the health care system from a healthier population will be reinvested into public infrastructure and community projects.”
To promote food security, the Furey Government will increase the non-repayable grant amount available for community gardens from up to $500 to up to $750 per applicant for the 2021-22 growing season. Community Gardens encourage social connections, as well as offer easy access to healthy, sustainably-grown food.
Through culturally-sensitive, inclusive, and progressive policy initiatives both at the community and provincial level, a Furey Government will work tirelessly with the people of Newfoundland and Labrador to improve our health standards and outcomes.
A Government under Premier Furey’s leadership will develop a cost-neutral plan that improves the healthiness of Newfoundland and Labrador, and uses resulting health care savings to invest in community health infrastructure and programs. By making healthier choices more accessible and realistic options for people, the Furey Government will help Newfoundlanders and Labradorians thrive – improving the province’s health indicators.
