Promoting Opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The potential in this province is unlimited, and at this pivotal time in the history of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Furey government will capitalize on that potential to promote all opportunities available.

“We have a highly marketable product – fresh air, beautiful landscape, welcoming people, and a wealth of opportunity here in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Premier Andrew Furey.

A Furey government will maximize that potential by encouraging individuals to come here for a number of different benefits – high-quality education, working remotely, investment opportunities, a comfortable retirement, exciting tourism products, and hotbed of creativity.

“In order to achieve this, our government will continue to focus on robust immigration and retention policies, emphasize attracting remote workers, and develop ‘Come Home Year 2022’ to promote tourism and attract expats to move home,” Premier Furey said.

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated opportunities in remote work,

proving many jobs can be performed anywhere. Under the leadership of Premier Furey, our government will engage with Newfoundlanders and Labradorians abroad and encourage them to return home to work and live.

Some of the measures the Furey government plans to take include:

  • Create a one-stop online portal to promote all opportunities in communities across the province, including web domains titled StudyNL, InvestNL, ImmigrateNL, RetireNL, ExploreNL, and CreateNL;
  • Expand the award-winning tourism campaigns to target the specific groups outlined;
  • As part of the ‘Come Home Year 2022’ initiative, partner with organizations like GlobalNL and seize the opportunity to encourage Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to return home – for vacation, and long-term;
  • Complete a comprehensive review of the labour market to identify gaps that repatriated individuals can fill and connect them with resources to do it;

The travel and tourism industry has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As administration of vaccines continues around the world, this province will be positioned to realize our potential as a destination of choice – for families to live, work, and play.

“We have learned so much through this pandemic, including how fortunate we are to be weathering it so well – thanks to the sacrifices and resilience of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” said Premier Andrew Furey.

“Let’s capitalize on that expanded global spotlight, and build on our brand from the Tony award-winning musical Come From Away to the recent multi-billion dollar acquisition of tech company Verafin.”
